TMG -- Tropical Melhoramento & Genética, a Brazilian company providing genetic solutions for cotton, soybeans and corn, operates in Passo Fundo (RS), its experimental station for the development of cultivars with the help of cutting-edge agricultural technologies and biotechnology.
The station has been operating on Rio Grande do Sul soil since 2015, and contributed to the launch of soybean cultivars adapted to soybean growing regions 1 and 2, which comprise the states of the South and Center-South regions. Varieties are developed through the selection of promising strains using experimentation, genetic improvement and biotechnology techniques.
TMG's presence in the region guarantees greater assertiveness in the supply of superior products specially adapted to meet the demands of producers in the South of Brazil. The selection of superior plants in the places where the cultivation will be carried out allows greater precision and agility in the breeding program that has a regional focus, explains Guilherme dos Santos, soybean breeder at TMG.
The area also has radial environments, focused on studying the different locations representing the most diverse combinations of environments found in Southern Brazil.
Last March, the company held a Field Day at the TMG research station in Passo Fundo. The objective of the action was to present to partners the new generation of TMG cultivars, which is made up of products with high productive potential, resistance to phytophthora and widely adapted to different production regions in the south of the country. “We are investing heavily in the South region, especially here in Rio Grande do Sul, as the focus is on cultivars with Gaucho DNA, more adapted to the environment, with high production potential and with characteristics that the market seeks, such as precocity, health and resistance. bedridden”, reinforces Renan dos Santos, account manager at TMG.
