A disease that finds a favorable environment to develop in conditions of high humidity, as is common in the Brazilian cerrado, where more than 90% of national cotton production is concentrated, is ramularia spot (Ramularia areola) requires attention from the producer. According to the technical area of Sipcam Nichino Brasil, the company, harvest after plume harvest, has obtained good results in controlling ramularia spot with scheduled applications of a systemic and protective fungicide with multisite.

According to the company, this solution, branded Fezan Gold, is one of the few available on the market today that has these characteristics. “Treatments with Fezan Gold provide the producer with high rates of control of ramularia spot, in addition to contributing to productivity gains”, summarizes José de Freitas, from the market development area at Sipcam Nichino.

The company, of Italian-Japanese origin, recommends that producers begin applications, preventively, thirty days after emergence and/or at the beginning of the crop's reproductive stage (B1), with the appearance of the first floral bud - or when favorable conditions exist. to the development of the disease.

For the company, another measure that should not be left aside by cotton farmers is the so-called anti-resistance management of ramularia leaf spot to fungicides. To achieve this, the company emphasizes, it is important that treatments involve rotation between fungicides with different modes of action, such as those containing multisites such as Fezan Gold itself.

According to experts, ramularia spot is capable of causing reductions of around 40% in cotton productivity. Symptoms of the presence of the pathogen can be observed on both sides of the leaf, with white lesions. Uncontrolled, the disease causes necrosis and early defoliation in the crop, an effect that also compromises the formation of apples, reduces the growth of reproductive structures and forces the bolls to open early. As a result, there is also a significant loss in fiber quality.

“It is worth highlighting the high selectivity of Fezan Gold, which does not cause phytotoxicity in registered crops, such as cotton”, adds Freitas.

According to him, Fezan Gold also records high standards of control of Asian soybean rust, in addition to having specific recommendations for peanut, oat, beans, coffee, rye, barley, corn, wheat and triticale crops.
