Soybean cultivars, disease and weed management are some of the topics that will be presented at the Embrapa Trigo Field Day, which takes place on March 18th and 19th, in Passo Fundo, RS.

One of the highlights of the event is the BRS 5804RR soybean cultivar, Embrapa's latest release for cultivation in the cold regions of SP, PR, SC and RS. The yield potential exceeds 100 bags per hectare. The cultivar portfolio is completed with early (BRS 5601RR), medium (BRS 5804RR) and late (BRS 6203RR) cycle options.

However, investing in genetics alone does not guarantee high yields in soybean crops. This is what Embrapa Trigo researcher Paulo Bertagnolli assesses: “Maintaining the soil well structured is essential to minimize losses in years with water deficiency and also to achieve greater yield in years with favorable climate. This is the producer's first point of attention. The second is fertility and then comes cultivation. Genetics is important, yes, but it needs to be associated with a set of technologies that must be managed.” The researcher also defends the rotation of soybeans with winter crops and corn to control invasive diseases and diseases in the crop, as well as improve the soil.

Summer Field Day will feature five stations: weed management; cultivars; soil compaction; root diseases; and winter options. On March 18th, the program is aimed at students, starting at 03pm. On March 14th, producers and technical assistance are expected both in the morning shift, at 19am, and in the afternoon, at 03:9pm. The event will be held at the Embrapa Trigo technology showcase, in Passo Fundo, RS, on the banks of BR 13, km 30. Information via telephone 285-294-54 and e-mail trigo.eventos@embrapa.br. Summer Field Day is promoted by Embrapa Trigo with support from the Cooperative Technical Network (RTC) and CCGL.
