Sumitomo Chemical is showcasing its broad portfolio of insecticides at the Brazilian Entomology Congress, which will be held in Uberlândia next week. With annual investments of 7,5% of its global revenue in research and development, the company is bringing to the event the most advanced solutions for pest control in Brazil’s main crops.

The company's highlights include the insecticides Legion, Decision and Abaday, solutions for managing bugs and caterpillars in soybeans, corn and cotton. Legion is known for its rapid shock action against suckers, while Decision, also for controlling bugs and other suckers, stands out for its safety against pollinators, allowing applications during flowering. Abaday, in turn, is a highly efficient insecticide that ensures the best results in controlling caterpillars in soybean, corn and cotton crops, as it has a dual mode of action, by contact and ingestion.

According to Embrapa, losses in cotton crops can reach up to 40% due to the action of bugs and caterpillars, directly impacting farmers' profitability. Losses in soybeans can reach 25%, while in corn, caterpillars such as Spodoptera frugiperda can cause losses of up to 40%, directly impacting producers' profitability.

“These insects have become a major challenge for producers, especially due to climate change that can affect the pest’s life cycle and also the presence of two or even three consecutive harvests,” explains Suellen Drumond, Insecticides Manager and Cotton Cultivation Leader at Sumitomo Chemical.

“Therefore, it is important to use integrated pest management and resistance management strategies, such as rotating products with different modes of action, and products that are multi-targets. These solutions make a difference in practice, allowing farmers to face challenges more effectively and sustainably,” he adds.

A lecture by agronomist Leonardo Burtet, from Sumitomo Chemical's market development area, scheduled for September 24, will specifically address these innovative solutions, offering participants a detailed view of how Sumitomo Chemical's products can mitigate these challenges and protect the productive potential of crops.

In Sumitomo Chemical's portfolio, farmers can find specific solutions for various crops. For cotton, as well as soybeans and corn, the Legion insecticide stands out for its effective control of the boll weevil, while the Smite acaricide acts on all phases of the main mites that attack the crop. In sugarcane, the recently launched Kaiso Max offers a dual mechanism of action, and DiPel, a biological insecticide, continues to be an excellent rotation and control strategy for the sugarcane borer.

In addition, for pasture, the company offers the insecticides Kaiso and Carnadine, and for citrus, the acaricide Borneo stands out for its selectivity. In the vegetable segment, the products Epingle and Sumirody ensure efficient pest control, among several other options from the company.

“Sumitomo Chemical’s presence at the Congress is not limited to the presentation of its solutions; Leonardo Burtet’s lecture and the presence of researchers in the field will be an opportunity to explore the innovations that the company offers, reaffirming its role as an essential partner in Brazilian agribusiness,” says Suellen.

The event, promoted by the Entomological Society of Brazil, is a forum to discuss the sustainability and biodiversity of insects in agriculture.
