Orplana (Organization of Associations of Sugarcane Producers of Brazil) was present at the 24th Datagro International Conference on Sugar and Ethanol, held in São Paulo. The president of the organization, Gustavo Rattes, participated in the opening ceremony and in one of the event's panels, in which he discussed the importance of sustainable regulation for the sugar and ethanol sector.

Guest of the “Presidents’ Panel – Regulation of the sector”, held on the second day of the conference, Rattes emphasized the need to recognize and integrate sugarcane producers into public policies, given that more than 40% of the sugarcane used in ethanol production comes from independent producers.

The president of Orplana also argued that inclusion is of utmost importance not only for agriculture, but also for social justice and Brazil’s competitiveness in the global market. “We need public policies that recognize and integrate rural producers. If we join forces between producers and industries, we can build a fairer and more competitive Brazil,” he said.

In addition to Rattes, Orplana CEO José Guilherme Nogueira participated in the panel that addressed the 2024/2025 harvest and the outlook for 2025/2026, highlighting the challenges faced by the industry due to the drought and fires that impacted crops.

The 24th Datagro International Conference brought together authorities, businesspeople and experts, providing a space to discuss urgent issues related to sustainability, the market and new technologies in the biofuels sector, in addition to reaffirming that collaboration between producers and industries is essential to strengthen the ethanol sector and drive a more sustainable future.
