Sugar was the highlight of cargo movement at the Port of Santos in January, with growth of 37,2%, totaling 1,2 million tons, compared to the same period in 2022. The commodity was the highlight among cargoes of exports, accompanied by corn, which also performed well, totaling 1,4 million, a growth of 43,2%. The performance of these loads increased the movement of solid bulk by 0,9%.
The general movement in January reached 10,1 million tons, a reduction of 4,7% over the same month last year (10,6 million tons), the period in which the historical record for January was recorded. The drop was mainly determined by the 51% reduction in shipments to the soybean complex and a 17,8% reduction in fertilizer discharges. Thus, January/2023 ranks as the second best historical result for the first month of the year.
Shipments reached 6,8 million tons, a drop of 4%, while discharges totaled 3,4 million tons, a decrease of 6,1%.
Container movement totaled 352.855 TEU (unit equivalent to a 20-foot container), a reduction of 8,1% compared to January last year (384.073 TEU), the period in which the historical record for the month was recorded.
The flow of ships registered 399 vessels, 2,8% higher than January 2022.
