In the Caxias do Sul region, the strawberry harvest is reaching its peak. According to the Informativo Conjuntural, released this week, the fruits have an intense color and flavor due to the improvement in weather conditions in previous weeks, with predominant sunshine and pleasant temperatures. On the Gaucho Day holiday (20/09), many tourists visited the cities in the region, contributing to the sale of a large quantity of the fruit.
In the Lajeado region, in Feliz, the crop is in full harvest and producers report that production is very good and higher than last year. The weather in the last two weeks has been favorable for the crop, inducing flowering and production. In Santa Rosa, this time of year is usually the peak of strawberry production in the region. The plants are developing very well in terms of fruiting and production, providing an increase in supply.
In the Bagé region of Alegrete, open-air tomato producers have made progress in preparing the soil for transplanting seedlings. Greenhouse production has been gradually improving due to the greater incidence of solar radiation, which provides adequate plant health and a good fruit set rate.
In the Ijuí region, vegetable crops show excellent aerial development. In subsistence crops, there is a surplus of produce in home gardens, mainly due to the emergence of tassels on lettuce plants at the end of their cycle and the large production of cabbage. In commercial crops, surplus produce was also observed, but this is being discarded, without impacting the supply or the producers' revenue. Cassava crops are at the beginning of sprouting of the branches, and there is a low failure rate. The planting of cucumbers, pumpkins and squash continues intensively.
Wheat crops are in satisfactory condition in Rio Grande do Sul and are performing better in the northern regions of the state, where climate conditions are more favorable. In the south, the situation is less favorable, since the recurrence of rain in Campanha and the Far South has caused difficulties in crop management, resulting in postponements or even suspension of operations, including fertilization and spraying. On 20/09, in Planalto Médio, the incidence of strong winds caused lodging in some crops, but there was almost total recovery of the damage observed.
The production cycle is evolving and 4% of the crops have reached the maturation process; 42% are in the grain filling phase; 38% are in flowering; and the remaining 16% are in vegetative development. The cultivated area, according to data from Emater/RS, is 1.312.488 hectares, and the expected productivity is 3.100 kg/ha.
The corn sown area increased by 6% in the period, benefiting from weather conditions, reaching 49% of the area projected for the harvest. The crops are in the germination and vegetative development stages. For the 2024/2025 Harvest in the State, Emater/RS projects the cultivation of 748.511 hectares, and productivity is estimated at 7.116 kg/ha.
In the Porto Alegre region, the mandaçaia and manduri bees have resumed laying their eggs after the winter diapause, benefiting from the abundant flowering of the plants. Swarming has already been observed, and this is the recommended time to install temporary nests due to the multiplication of the swarms. In Ijuí, meliponiculturists report an increase in the capture of new swarms, coinciding with the increase in the flowering of native species. In Santa Rosa, due to the increase in flowering and the rise in temperatures, bee captures are being carried out in the region, including the division of the melipona hives (mandaçaia, manduri and guaraipo).
