São Paulo's grain production closes the 2020/21 harvest with an estimated 8,6 million tons, a decrease of 6,5% compared to the previous harvest. The total cultivated area was almost 2,4 million hectares, with an average productivity of 3.604 kg/ha. The data comes from the 12th Survey of the 2020/21 Grain Harvest, published by the National Supply Company (Conab) this Thursday (09/09).

In São Paulo, the cotton harvest is over on the 4,7 hectares cultivated with this crop during the season. Around 18,7 thousand tons of seed cotton or 7,3 thousand tons of cotton lint were obtained, with a fiber quality classification between good and fair. The reduction is 57,7% compared to the volume produced in 2019/20, mainly due to the reduction in the planted area.

São Paulo's total peanut production in 2020/21 is expected to reach 561,6 thousand tons, an increase of 7,1% compared to last season. The state is the main Brazilian producer and the most suitable period for peanut cultivation is from the end of February to the end of March.

In relation to corn, even with the increase in planted area compared to last year, the harvest result should be lower than that seen in 2019/20, mainly due to weather conditions, with records of water scarcity due to lack of rain, in addition to incidence of frosts that hampered part of the development of the crop.

In the Southeast Region, the largest portion of rice cultivation is observed in São Paulo. There were 10,1 thousand hectares cultivated in the region, of which 8,3 thousand hectares were in areas of São Paulo. As for production, the total volume harvested in the state was 39,8 thousand tons, representing an increase of 19,2% in relation to the result obtained in 2019/20. Climatic conditions began fluctuating and improved during the cycle, favoring the development of the crop, which presented a higher average yield than last season.

The Southeast Region also presented historic records for area, productivity and soybean production this season. In São Paulo, production reached almost 4,3 million tons, an increase of 8,6% in relation to the volume produced in the previous harvest.

Regarding wheat, the forecast is for a decrease in the state's average productivity, and, consequently, in the final volume harvested, both compared to the values obtained in 2020. Severe losses were observed due to drought and frost.

full bulletin, with an overview of grain production in São Paulo and throughout Brazil, is available on the Conab website.
