State grain production closes the cycle with an estimated 249 thousand tons in Pernambuco

Pernambuco's grain production closed the 2020/21 harvest with an estimated 249,1 thousand tons, a decrease of 20,8% compared to the previous season. The cultivated area was approximately 464,6 thousand hectares, with an average productivity of 536 kilos per hectare. The data comes from the 12th Survey of the 2020/21 Grain Harvest, published by the National Supply Company (Conab) last Thursday (09/09).

In relation to beans, 104,7 thousand hectares were allocated for planting cowpea 2nd harvest in the sertão mesoregion (chapada do Araripe and mountainous regions). However, low levels of precipitation during part of the cycle caused a reduction in production potential. Final production was 24,1 thousand tons, 40% lower than the result of 2019/20.

For common bean colors 3rd harvest, the area allocated in the state was 76,8 thousand hectares. Cultivation, concentrated in the Agreste region, has presented satisfactory conditions. The production estimate is 59,9 thousand tons, with around 80% of the total area already harvested by the end of August.

Third-crop corn, in turn, is sown in the Agreste mesoregion, normally between April and June. In general, rainfall behavior has been normal, and the crop is 3% in the flowering stage, 20% in grain filling and 50% in maturation. Given the growing need for the product in the region and the consequent increase in value of the cereal, some producers have organized themselves and have been investing in the broad use of technology in crops, using hybrid and more productive varieties, in addition to planting, cultural treatments and mechanized harvesting.
