After completing the edition of the Business Intelligence Panel (BIP) for the 2020-21 harvest, the consultancy Spark Inteligencia Estratégica announces a new edition of the survey on the Brazilian soy nutrition market, which begins to be structured this month. The first panel of its kind produced in the country was delivered by the same Spark, at the end of the 2019-20 oilseed cycle. The study then found a turnover of over US$7,8 billion in the segment.
According to Spark's managing partner, agronomist André Dias, the new BIP Spark Nutrição Soja will analyze the segments of soil improvers and conditioners, base and top dressing, inoculants, biostimulants and fertilizers (via seed and foliar).
“The soybean nutrition research will have additional points of analysis to the previous one, especially the impact of the current pressure on input prices, with expectations of an increase and a prospect of resilience in the coming months”, anticipates Dias. “This scenario will certainly influence farmers’ field practices. Nowadays, we have already seen significant increases in the sales values of basic fertilizers”, explains the Spark partner.
Another complex issue, highlights Dias, involves the supply chain as a whole, “in light of forecasts that point to a lack of fertilizer products, at points of sale, in subsequent harvests”, continues André Dias.
According to the executive, to carry out the new BIP Nutrição Soja, Spark will carry out around 2,4 interviews. The research will also investigate indicators of soybean farmers’ adherence to products; which are the main companies in the sector and, also, the level of association of the oilseed producer with brands and manufacturers of inputs for the nutritional management of the crop.
“The research will cover the main soy producing regions, including the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná and the MAPITOBA area”, adds Dias.
Even in the face of a potentially challenging market scenario in the 2021-22 cycle, due to the exchange rate, climate and price pressure, Spark foresees a positive expectation regarding the movement of the oilseed nutrition market. “The prevalence of favorable prices for the commodity on the international market could once again boost farmers' adherence to technology in general, including plant nutrition management, which transfers more productivity and quality to production”, summarizes Dias.
In the previous survey, Spark's figures indicated that products for base and top dressing occupied the largest share of the market, with an 81% share or US$6,392 billion. The soil improvers and conditioners and fertilizer segments (via seed and foliar), including biostimulants, accounted for around 18% of sales, approximately US$ 1,4 billion. Inoculants then closed the relationship, with a 1% share and sales of US$54 million.
In volume, Spark recalls, the soybean farmers interviewed in the 2019-20 cycle demanded more than 64 million tons of inputs for soybean nutrition. Regarding manufacturers and commercial brands, over 200 companies and 1,9 products were mentioned in the previous survey.
According to André Dias, the expectation is that the second BIP Spark Nutrição Soja survey will be completed in June 2022.
