CNH faces challenges in the 3rd Quarter of 2024
Net income for the quarter was $310 million, down 43% from $540 million in 2023
Mato Grosso do Sul's trade balance recorded a surplus of US$6,308 billion up to October 2024, according to data from the Foreign Trade Situation Letter, prepared by Semadesc (Secretariat of Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation). Exports, which totaled US$8,680 billion in the year to date, had a slight drop of 3,7% compared to the same period in 2023, while imports totaled US$2,371 billion, marking a reduction of 4,1%.
The products that most boosted exports were soybeans, responsible for 32,4% of total exports, and cellulose, with a 24,4% share and an increase of 79,3% compared to last year. Together, these commodities highlight the agricultural and industrial strength of the state, which maintains a positive balance in the trade balance.
Regarding imports, natural gas remains the main item, representing 40,8% of the state's international purchases, despite a 10,6% drop compared to last year. Other relevant products include fertilizers (11,5%) and copper (7,4%), reflecting the demand for agricultural and industrial inputs.
China remains the main destination for exports from Mato Grosso do Sul, accounting for 47,3% of the total. The United States and the Netherlands follow, with shares of 6,4% and 4,6%, respectively. The state also recorded significant growth in sales to the United Arab Emirates (112,8%) and Turkey (14,8%), compared to 2023.
The ports of Paranaguá and Santos stand out as the state's main export routes, responsible for 37,2% and 35% of the flow, respectively. The municipality of Três Lagoas leads the municipal ranking of exporters, accounting for 25,4% of the state total and registering growth of 51,7% over the previous year. Dourados, which occupies second place, suffered a decline of 41,3%; Campo Grande (4,9%) and Corumbá (3,8%).
The performance by sector also reveals that, while the manufacturing industry grew 27,9% in export value, agriculture and the extractive industry faced declines of 30,8% and 26,1%, respectively.
