Soybean production in Mato Grosso do Sul is expected to reach 13,35 million tons, an increase of 49,4% compared to the 2021/22 harvest. This will also be the largest state production of the oilseed, according to data from the Conab historical series, started in 1977. The numbers are from the third survey of the grain harvest, released by the National Supply Company (Conab).

With 98% of sowing completed by the end of November, crops are showing good development and approximately 20% of crops have started their reproductive phases, when plants become more susceptible to environmental stress due to increased water demand, which requires good and regular volumes of rain.

The estimate of the state area cultivated with soybeans shows an increase of 5,8% in relation to the last harvest, reaching 3,76 million hectares with the oilseed in Mato Grosso do Sul. Furthermore, so far the climatic conditions are allowing an estimate an average productivity of 3.549 kg/ha, which represents a recovery of 41,2% compared to the last cycle, which was strongly affected by adverse weather in December and January.

Soy corresponds to more than 98% of grain crops carried out in the first harvest in Mato Grosso do Sul. With the end of the sanitary void, on September 15, the sowing of crops for the 2022/23 harvest began. At that time there was already good moisture in the soil and rainfall remained frequent and with good volumes until the end of October, ensuring adequate germination and emergence of plants, providing an adequate population of plants in the crops.

In November, there was a significant reduction in the accumulated volume, but the correct distribution of precipitation maintained sufficient water availability for the good development of the crop.
