More than half of coffee export ships delay shipments in May
Result demonstrates structural and physical limitations in the ports of Santos and Rio de Janeiro, the two main outlets for the product
The Goiás Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa) published an alert today highlighting that the soybean void begins on June 27th in Goiás. Until September 24th, that is, within a period of 90 days, planting or keeping plants alive will not be allowed. of soybeans at any stage of development in crops, not even tigueras, which are soybean plants that germinate in the field right after harvest. One of the objectives of this phytosanitary measure is to contribute to minimizing costs in the prevention and control of Asian rust, as well as preventing the spread of the disease in the State.
According to the calendar provided for in Normative Instruction (IN) No. 02/2021, from Agrodefesa, from the 25th of September, the producer will be able to start planting in the 2024/2025 harvest in Goiás soil, extending the deadline until the 02nd January 2025. Also according to IN, the crop registration must also be done with the Agricultural Defense System (Sidago) within 15 days after the end of soybean sowing.
With more than 17,7 million tons cultivated in the 2023/2024 harvest, Goiás is currently the third largest soybean producer in the country, behind only Mato Grosso and Paraná, according to data consolidated by the National Supply Company (Conab). The president of Agrodefesa, José Ricardo Caixeta Ramos, emphasizes that this result is only possible because important legislative measures are complied with, such as the sanitary void and sowing periods.
“Rural producers in Goiás know that it is necessary to follow the phytosanitary calendar and always try to meet deadlines. It is a great partner in agricultural defense. But it is the role of Agrodefesa to guide and reinforce the importance of adopting phytosanitary measures to help reduce the population rate of Asian rust in the countryside, thus ensuring plant health in the State and, consequently, good numbers in agriculture in Goiás”, he emphasizes. .
The soybean health void is a preventive measure adopted in Goiás since 2004. Agrodefesa's Plant Health manager, Daniela Rézio, informs that it is an effective action and approved by scientific research. “We always advise that it is an additional strategy to the management, which is already carried out by producers in the field. Therefore, the combination of these measures has positive effects on the control of Asian rust, because the total absence of soybean plants, including tigueras, in the specified period of 90 days, contributes to preventing and controlling the disease in crops”.
Daniela also highlights that crop registration, which must be done within 15 days after the end of sowing, is necessary so that Agrodefesa can identify and guide the importance of complying with the calendars. “This is to avoid losses and a drop in grain productivity and the production of soybean seeds, which, in fact, in the last harvest we were the largest seed producer in the country”, she reports.
It is important to highlight that the extension of the soybean calendar that occurred in the 2023/2024 harvest was extended on an exceptional basis until January 12 due to unfavorable weather conditions, upon request from Agrodefesa and authorization granted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) .
“The irregularity in the rainy season and high temperatures compromised the development of crops in several regions of Goiás. Therefore, we sought to meet the request of the production sector and managed to extend the sowing deadline from Mapa, because it was really necessary in that situation, motivated by the strong influence of the El Niño phenomenon in the State. But we need to reinforce that this change will not change the calendar for the sanitary void or sowing in the 2024/2025 harvest”, advises Daniela Rézio.
