Paraná consolidated its leadership in poultry exports by 2025 and is on track for a record soybean harvest, with production estimated at 22 million tons. These are highlights from the weekly bulletin of the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), of the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), released this Thursday (February 12).

Approximately 347 hectares of soybeans were harvested in the state this week, about 20% of the planted area. The 2025/26 harvest is more advanced in the western region of the state, which accounts for about 18% of the 5,78 million hectares sown this cycle. "The current expectation is that with a production of 22 million tons, Paraná will account for approximately 13% of national production, maintaining its position as the second largest national producer," says Edmar Gervasio, a technician at Deral.

In the national context, Brazilian soybean production for the 2025/26 cycle is estimated at 176 million tons and, if confirmed, will represent a new record for the country.

However, the soybean market faces some dilemmas. Prices for a 60 kg bag in Paraná last week were around R$ 112, a value 6% lower than the average price recorded in February 2025. This drop goes against the international market trend, since current prices on the Chicago Board of Trade have registered an increase of nearly 10%. "This divergence is essentially explained by the appreciation of the real against the dollar, which has fallen by approximately 9% compared to the same period last year," explains Gervasio.

Coffee

The outlook for coffee farming in Paraná is one of stable production, according to analyst Carlos Hugo Godinho. “In 2025, the harvest from an area of 25,2 hectares resulted in 44,3 tons. This year, with a similar area to last year, production is estimated at 42,8 tons, a volume 3% lower than the previous year,” he says. “However, good field conditions could increase the projected productivity, and it wouldn't be surprising if the 2025 volume were repeated in 2026.”

Prices received for the product are not favorable, even during the off-season. The technician reports that this year prices began a downward trend, reaching well below the 2025 level in February.

“Last year, prices only fell below R$ 2.000 between July and August, precisely at the peak of the national harvest. The average of R$ 1.892 recorded in the first week of February is 23% lower than that of the same period in 2025, which was R$ 2.446,64,” adds Godinho.

"It is worth noting that coffee cultivation has been losing ground to grain crops in Paraná and depends on a prolonged period of financial stability to halt this process of area substitution. On the other hand, with average costs estimated at around R$ 1.100 per sack, the sector still has the capacity to absorb sharper price declines without operating at a loss," he concluded.

French Fries

This season, Paraná is cultivating an area of 26,8 hectares (ha) of potatoes in two stages. The first crop, sown between August and November, corresponds to an area of 16,7 hectares, of which 86% has already been harvested. The Regional Centers of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (NRs) responsible for these areas are those of Curitiba, with 34,5% of the total; Guarapuava (25,6%), Pato Branco (16,6%), Ponta Grossa (11,7%) and União da Vitória (8,2%), totaling 96,4% of the state total.

Paulo Andrade, from Deral, states that the estimated production is 555 tons and that sales have already reached 80% of the production. Of the total area estimated for planting the second crop, planted until December, 59% (corresponding to 10,1 hectares) is already in the ground. This represents 5,9 hectares distributed across nine Regional Centers in the state.

The average monthly price received by potato producers in January was R$ 26,04 per 25 kg sack of smooth potatoes (R$ 1,04/kg), a 16% reduction compared to the R$ 30,99 of December last year. At the wholesale level, the price of smooth potatoes closed the month of January at R$ 52,15 per sack (R$ 2,10/kg), 15% lower than that practiced in December 25.

In the retail market, the average monthly price of smooth potatoes fell from R$ 3,44 per kilo in December to R$ 3,30/kg in January of this year. "The oversupply in the national market has contributed to reductions in prices received by farmers, in wholesale and retail prices, compromising the profitability of rural producers," noted Andrade.
