Paraná ports exported around 9,41 million tons of soybeans from January to July this year, a growth of 16% compared to last year (8,08 million tons), according to data from Comex/Stat, the Brazilian government's official system on foreign trade.

The numbers show an increase four times greater than the national average, which grew by just 4%, going from 72,45 million tons in 2023 to 75,39 million tons in 2024. The main destination is China, which receives 94% of what is exported through the ports of Paraná.

“We continue to have good prospects for results in the coming months, including for next year. There is a good expectation for soybean production for the 2024/2025 cycle, which begins to be cultivated in mid-September,” said the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.

Another important number is the variation representativeness, which compares the productivity of Brazilian ports in relation to the previous year. The Port of Paranaguá was the one that presented the greatest difference, in tons, in movement in the first seven months of 2024 compared to 2023. At a national level, there was a 45% increase in commodities compared to the previous year. According to data from Comex/Stat, Paraná went from just over 8 million tons in 2023 to 9,4 million tons in 2024.

General export

Between January and July, 24.751.103 tons of goods for export were handled through ports in Paraná. The volume is 4% higher than last year (23.810.861 tons). In addition to soybeans, bulk sugar and containers also saw the largest growth in volume during the period.

Bulk sugar is the second commodity to show growth in the period compared to 2023. There were 3.353.828 tons moved in 2024, 50% more than last year (2.238.921 tons). The main destinations were Indonesia and Iran.

In third place is container movement. 461.808 TEUs (measurement for 20-foot container lengths) were shipped in the period, 38% more than in 2023 (334.994 TEUs). Frozen meat is the main commodity in demand, with emphasis on chicken and beef.

“Part of this increase is due to the meat complex. Beef has a smaller volume, but it is also growing; chicken meat, on the other hand, shows an organic increase. Currently, the Port of Paranaguá is the largest export channel for frozen chicken meat in the world,” highlighted the Operations Director of Portos do Paraná, Gabriel Vieira.

Records in the period

From January to June 2024, the ports of Paraná reached a total of 33.780.236 tons handled, which represents a historic movement record for the period, 9% more compared to the first half of 2023 (30.898.006 tons).

The months of January, February, March and June also reached historic numbers, with June being the largest monthly movement in the port's history: 6.582.670 tons, an increase of 3% compared to the previous record, achieved in December last year (6.376.229 tons).
