New data from Serasa Experian, in the second chapter of the "Agro Maps" series, shows a growth of 175 hectares (ha) in planted soybean area (2025/26 crop) in Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, and the Federal District compared to the previous cycle. This growth was mainly driven by the state of Bahia, which accounts for 56% of the recorded expansion, or approximately 98 ha.
The mapping also identified significant growth in first-crop corn areas. Considering the states analyzed, the cultivated area reached approximately 360 hectares, an increase of approximately 20% in the 2025/26 crop year compared to the previous one. Bahia concentrates about 190 hectares of this total and stands out for the municipal expansion of cultivation in western Bahia, a movement that is associated with the expansion of the corn ethanol chain in the region.
Bahia reached approximately 2,27 million hectares (ha) cultivated with soybeans in the 2025/26 crop season, a growth of 4,5% compared to the previous cycle and an accumulated expansion of 23% in the last six crop seasons. The state remains the main producer of the crop in the Northeast.
Looking at the municipality-by-municipality view, also made possible by the mapping, the regions that most expanded their planted soybean areas in absolute numbers were São Desidério, Jaborandi, Correntina, Formosa do Rio Preto, and Cocos.
In addition to soybeans, the state also leads in corn cultivation among the Federative Units analyzed in this edition, with approximately 190 hectares planted. São Desidério, Luís Eduardo Magalhães, and Jaborandi are among the municipalities that have been increasing their participation in the crop.
In Goiás and the Federal District, the cultivated area of soybeans reached approximately 5,84 million hectares in the 2025/26 crop season. Compared to the 2020/21 crop season, the accumulated expansion reaches 1,2 million hectares, an increase of 28,4%. Jussara, Brasília, Jataí, Quirinópolis, and Serranópolis led the growth in planted area.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, the planted area of soybeans reached approximately 3,9 million hectares in the current harvest. Over the last six harvests, the accumulated expansion was 14,4%, equivalent to about 490 hectares. Comparing the 2024/25 and 2025/26 harvests, the municipalities that registered the greatest increases in planted area were Maracaju, Dourados, Ivinhema, Itaporã, and Jaraguari.
In addition to monitoring the expansion of crops, the Serasa Experian survey identified cultivated areas located on rural properties with records of vegetation suppression that occurred from July 31, 2019 onwards. This information aligns with one of the criteria stipulated in the Rural Credit Manual (MCR), used by financial institutions and companies in the sector for socio-environmental compliance analyses. In these cases, the MCR requires the presentation of documentation proving the legality of vegetation suppression, in accordance with applicable legislation.
Among the states analyzed, Bahia concentrates approximately 174 hectares of soybeans in these areas. In Goiás and the Federal District, the volume reaches about 40 hectares, while Mato Grosso do Sul registers approximately 18 hectares.
The study also identified the presence of soybean cultivation in rural settlements. Mato Grosso do Sul has approximately 100 hectares of soybeans in these areas, while Goiás and the Federal District together account for about 70 hectares. In Bahia, the volume is approximately 2 hectares.
The survey was conducted using satellite imagery and geoprocessing techniques to map the expansion of cultivated areas for soybeans and corn in the 2025/26 crop season. According to Serasa Experian, the data can support risk analysis, planning, and socio-environmental monitoring in agribusiness.
