The Easter and Tiradentes holidays are expected to bring heavy rains to areas of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Bahia. In addition, the passage of a cold front across the ocean could impact parts of the South Region, according to a forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

The rains begin this Thursday (17), with greater intensity in areas of Minas Gerais, such as the Rio Doce Valley and the Jequitinhonha Valley, in addition to the northern coast of Espírito Santo. The instability extends to the south of Bahia, with a specific chance of significant volumes that can reach up to 100 mm until tomorrow (18).

In areas of São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná, instability is expected to intensify during this period, with rainfall reaching 100 mm and wind gusts reaching 100 km/h.

This Good Friday (18), heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the south-central region of Mato Grosso do Sul. The tendency is for the instabilities to decrease over the course of the long holiday.

In São Paulo, the most significant rainfall is expected to occur in the west and north-central part of the state tomorrow (18), continuing on Saturday (19) and in a more moderate manner on the coast, due to the passage of a frontal system over the ocean. As a result, some locations may experience a drop in temperature on Sunday (20), and the interior of the state should have few clouds on Monday (21).

A new cold front begins to move across the ocean starting this Friday (18), causing instability in the South Region. The center-north of Rio Grande do Sul will be the first to be hit, with the advance of the system expected for Saturday (19) and Sunday (20), also reaching the west of Santa Catarina and Paraná.

According to Inmet, the forecast is for moderate rains in the region, but they will be welcome to restore soil moisture, which became drier during the summer period at the beginning of this year.

From the weekend onwards, the cold air mass should favor the formation of weak frost for areas of the South Region, between Saturday (19) and Monday (21).
