Mills in the Center-South region processed 45,97 million tons of sugarcane in the first half of September, a 6,94% increase compared to the same period last year. Cumulative through the 16th, the milling totaled 450,01 million tons, representing a 3,68% decrease compared to the 2024/25 harvest.

According to the Sugarcane Industry Association (Unica), 259 units were in operation in the first half of September, a figure close to the previous year's level. Total Recoverable Sugars (TRS) fell 3,43% in the fortnightly comparison, to 154,58 kg per ton.

Sugar and ethanol production

Sugar production reached 3,62 million tons in the first 15 days of September. Overall, production for the harvest totaled 30,39 million tons, stable compared to the previous cycle.

Meanwhile, the proportion of sugarcane used for sugar fell from 54,2% in the second half of August to 53,5% in the first half of September. In Goiás and Mato Grosso, the decline was even greater, at 1,0 percentage points and 1,2 percentage points, respectively. According to Luciano Rodrigues, director of Sector Intelligence at Unica, the change reflects the greater attractiveness of ethanol compared to sugar in these regions.

Biofuel production totaled 2,33 billion liters in the fortnight, comprising 1,46 billion liters of hydrous ethanol (-9,68%) and 875,40 million liters of anhydrous ethanol (+4,35%). Of the total, 16,74% came from corn, which saw a 15,97% increase in the period, reaching 390,13 million liters. So far this season, corn ethanol production has reached 4,12 billion liters, a 19,43% increase.

Sales on the rise

Ethanol sales grew 18,19% in the first half of September, totaling 1,56 billion liters. Anhydrous ethanol registered an increase of 25,89% (599,05 million liters), while hydrous ethanol increased 13,42% (963,62 million liters).

In the domestic market, 864,79 million liters of hydrated (+5,89%) and 587,19 million liters of anhydrous (+23,40%) were sold. Exports soared 235,7%, with 110,7 million liters sold in the period.

In the accumulated harvest, however, total ethanol sales still fell by 1,60%, totaling 15,98 billion liters.

CBios market

According to data from B3, 31,69 million decarbonization credits (CBios) had been issued as of September 30. Of the total available, 97% already correspond to the volume needed to fully meet the 2025 target, considering adjustments from previous years and long-term contracts.
