Fair in Bebedouro (SP) will bring business, technology and credit to producers
Responsible for 12,5% of exports from Rio Grande do Sul and generating R$11,8 billion in income for producers, the tobacco sector reaffirms its economic and social relevance with the launch of the 2025 Institutional Report by SindiTabaco. Entitled Tobacco – Looking to the Future, the document provides an updated overview of the production chain.
The publication highlights Brazil's leading role as the world's largest tobacco exporter for over 30 years, the strengthening of the Integrated Production System and social responsibility programs, with emphasis on the actions of the Instituto Crescer Legal, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. With data on the socioeconomic profile of producers – 80% of whom belong to classes A and B – the report also presents positions on sustainability, use of pesticides, reforestation and combating child labor.
Another highlight is the sector’s position on the regulation of Electronic Smoking Devices (ESDs). While developed countries regulate their use, Brazil maintains the ban, exposing consumers to products that put their health at risk and enriching organized crime. According to the president of SindiTabaco, Valmor Thesing, Brazil needs to rethink its policy to avoid economic losses and combat the illegal market. “Regulation means protecting the consumer, generating jobs, taxes and allowing Brazilian producers to participate in a new global market,” he says.
