The 15th Awareness Cycle on producer health and safety and child and adolescent protection, promoted by SindiTabaco and associated companies, with support from the Brazilian Tobacco Growers Association (Afubra), begins its program on July 22.

Six seminars will be held in Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, and Santa Catarina, covering topics such as decent work, safety in pesticide application, harvesting precautions, and the importance of preventing children and adolescents from working in activities deemed inappropriate. The agenda is geared toward tobacco growers, health agents, school principals, child welfare counselors, and regional authorities.

The topics will be addressed in a playful and relaxed way through the podcast "Vida no Campo" (Country Life), by Companhia de Teatro Espaço Camarim, which will host a fun online radio show. Between moments of interaction with the audience and comedic moments, there will be clarifications and information, as well as a discussion of norms and laws regarding the topics discussed.

The first events of the 15th Awareness Cycle will be held on the afternoons of July 22nd and 23rd in Gramado Xavier and Vale do Sol, Rio Grande do Sul. The following week, seminars will be held in Ipiranga and Imbituva, Paraná (July 29th and 30th); and in Irineópolis and Mafra, Santa Catarina, on July 31st and August 1st. Held annually since 2009, the Awareness Cycles have already raised awareness in more than 70 municipalities, directly reaching 36 rural producers in tobacco-growing regions.

For SindiTabaco president Valmor Thesing, the events promote direct interaction with producers and community leaders. "These are important moments to reinforce various topics already addressed within the Integrated Production System and reflect on actions and attitudes that promote the health and safety of producers and their families, as well as the protection of children and adolescents," he says. "Producers are the foundation of the production chain and fundamental to responsible and sustainable production," adds Thesing.
