With strong public participation and engagement, the first two seminars of the 15th Awareness Cycle on producer health and safety and child and adolescent protection brought together 880 people in the municipalities of Gramado Xavier and Vale do Sol, in Rio Grande do Sul, on July 22 and 23. Promoted by SindiTabaco and associated companies, with support from Afubra, the event now moves to Paraná and Santa Catarina next week.

Aimed at tobacco growers, health agents, educators, guardians, and local leaders, the cycle promoted reflections on decent work in the fields, the safe use of agricultural pesticides, care during harvesting, and, most importantly, the protection of children and adolescents on rural properties.

"The Awareness Cycle, launched 15 years ago, aims to reinforce the guidance that member companies provide to their integrated producers, with the goal of complying with current legislation, but also to meet the demands of our international customers. We remain aligned with producer representatives to maintain the sustainable production that, along with the quality of our product, has made Brazil the largest tobacco exporter over the last 30 years," stated Valmor Thesing, president of SindiTabaco.

In a playful and interactive way, the topics were addressed through the staged podcast "Vida no Campo" (Countryside Life), by the Espaço Camarim Theater Company, which transformed the technical content into accessible and engaging information for the participants, the vast majority of whom were tobacco farmers.

"When called upon, tobacco growers show up and are always open to learning, to continually improve their property. The quality of Brazilian tobacco begins in the grower's home. But quality isn't just about the tobacco leaf cultivated with great care; it's also about the responsibility for children and adolescents and their education, the health and safety of the grower and their family, and decent work. These cycles are essential for providing us with the information that makes the tobacco production chain so organized," said Afubra president Marcilio Drescher.
