The economic indicator that shows the financial amount generated by agribusiness, called Gross Production Value (VBP), was R$61,70 billion in September in Mato Grosso do Sul. The value was 10,5% lower than in the same period of the previous year.

According to the VBP Bulletin, produced by the Mato Grosso do Sul Soybean Producers Association (Aprosoja/MS), with information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), together, soybean and corn crops were responsible for moving R$30,36 billion, equivalent to 75% of the amount moved by farming activity in the ninth month of this year. When compared to the month of September 2023, the two crops showed a retraction of 25,2% and 32,4%, respectively, reducing the gross value of the crop by 18,8%, which also includes crops such as rice, beans, oranges, wheat, coffee and others.

According to the economist at Aprosoja/MS, Mateus Fernandes, “this scenario of reduction reflects the challenges faced in the last grain harvests in the State. We had bad weather in both the soybean and corn cycles that interfered with production and, consequently, the prices of these commodities. As a result, market activity was also affected, bringing down the Gross Value of Production in MS”.

In Brazil, the VBP increased by 4% in September, equivalent to R$46 billion, closing at R$1,19 trillion. Crops were responsible for 68% of the amount generated and soybean and corn crops totaled 50% of the gross value of crops.

VBP

Gross Production Value (GVP) is an economic indicator that shows the financial amount generated from a given activity. GVP is obtained by multiplying the production volume by the average price received by the producer of the product in the main markets.
