The Federal Senate approved this Wednesday (4) the provisional measure that facilitates credit for rural producers. Known as MP do Agro (MPV 897/2019), the measure aims to improve rural credit, expanding access to financing, expanding resources and reducing interest rates.

Minister Tereza Cristina followed the vote by the Agro MP in the Senate plenary. "This Provisional Measure turns the page on Brazilian rural credit. It brings an opportunity for modernization and facilitation of credit", stated the minister, after approval of the measure.

Tereza Cristina highlighted the work of teams from the ministries of Economy and Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), the Parliamentary Front for Agriculture, senators and deputies, especially rapporteur Pedro Lupinon (DEM-PR) and reviewing rapporteur Soraya Thronicke ( PSL-MS) to approve the provisional measure. He also highlighted the decision of the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (DEM-AP), who scheduled an extraordinary session for this Wednesday to vote on the MP, which would expire next Tuesday.

The text was first approved by a mixed commission, which evaluated 349 amendments proposed by deputies and senators, and by the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies. The text will now be submitted for presidential sanction. The MP was published in October last year.
