The agricultural sector in São Paulo is one of the main markets driving the growth of the agricultural machinery sector in Brazil. In 2024, the state maintained its position as the leader in tractor sales in the country, according to the latest report by the National Association of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea), with more than 7 units sold in the State of São Paulo, representing a 21% share of national sales. Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul occupy second and third place, with 4,9 and 4,3 vehicles, respectively.

The Government of São Paulo, through the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (SAA), aims to further develop rural activities through modernization and technological innovation in the field.

“Our objective is to facilitate access to new technologies to improve the productive infrastructure of the countryside, contributing to the diversification and rationalization of activities”, highlights the Secretary of Agriculture, Guilherme Piai.

To contribute to technological advancement in the state, SAA, together with cooperative institutions, are aligned with the aim of supporting small and medium-sized businesses by financing the acquisition of tractors and agricultural implements.

“Our commitment is to offer our members the support they need to improve their operations and increase productivity. We believe that by facilitating access to resources, we are empowering small and medium-sized producers to face challenges with greater confidence and innovation,” highlights the Business Development Manager at Sicredi PR/SP/RJ Central, Gilson Nogueira Farias.

The SAA's Pró-Trator program benefits small rural producers in the state, with a 4% subsidy on the interest rate, capped at R$25, from the São Paulo Agribusiness Expansion Fund (FEAP). “By 2025, Pró-trator should be expanded to serve at least 800 rural producers, with support from rural producer cooperatives and cooperative banks,” highlighted the executive secretary of FEAP, Daniel Miranda. In 2023 and 2024, more than R$60 million were released.

Antônio Carlos, owner of Sítio Santa Rosa, in the municipality of Guaraci, purchased a tractor through the program. According to him, the initiative was essential for the purchase. “Only with incentives of this magnitude can we, small producers, be able to continue in the activity. Otherwise, we are doomed to disappear. With this machine, we become a little more competitive compared to large producers,” explains the producer.

“A new tractor is good for everything. In addition to being a modern technology, it also breaks down much less. In agriculture, everything has to be done at the right time; you can’t wait for a broken machine to be fixed,” concluded Antônio Carlos.
