São Paulo's wheat sector meets to debate the future of wheat production in the state

Wheat from São Paulo returns to the center of discussions on April 07th, with the first meeting of the Wheat Sector Chamber this year, which will be held in a hybrid format, at Cooperativa Capão Bonito - Av. Plácido Batista da Silveira, 355 - Capão Bonito (SP), at 10am. The online transmission will be done via the link: https://youtu.be/3RikAZWA7Pw. 

Among the issues that will be debated throughout the meeting will be the outlook and challenges facing the industry in the face of record wheat costs, mainly with the consequences of the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine for the grain market in Brazil and around the world.

“We are experiencing a very delicate market moment for the entire wheat chain. World cereal prices have reached record levels and uncertainties about global supply are great. Given this scenario, this meeting becomes even more important to bring together the sector and understand expectations for wheat production in the state”, says the president of the São Paulo Wheat Sector Chamber, Victor Oliveira.

Aiming to have a forecast of São Paulo's wheat production, the meeting will also feature the traditional report from the four largest Cooperatives in the state, which will help in measuring a possible volume of planting in São Paulo's fields.

“The year 2021, despite the impacts of climate change throughout the year, recorded a considerable volume of wheat in the fields of São Paulo, reaching around 250 thousand tons. We hope to increase this volume in 2022, especially with the scenario of rising wheat prices”, he highlights.

The meeting will also feature the participation of representatives from Cofco Internacional, who will give a brief presentation on the global wheat situation, the presentation of the Flour Quality Guide, which will be carried out by the Brazilian Wheat Industry Association - Abitrigo and the election of the new president and vice-president of the São Paulo Wheat Sector Chamber.
