An international highlight in food production, Santa Catarina continues to invest to increase the competitiveness of the production sector. The State Secretariat for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development will invest more than R$50,3 million in new fronts of action to encourage grain production; control and monitoring of agrochemical residues; improving infrastructure for artisanal fishing; mariculture management; in addition to purchasing equipment for family farming and fishing.

“Agribusiness is one of the great strengths of the state’s economy. Santa Catarina, with 1,12% of the Brazilian territory, is a model for the entire country. We will continue supporting field and sea workers so that they have an even better quality of life and income and continue to fulfill their important mission of feeding the people of Santa Catarina and the world”, said Governor Carlos Moisés.

There were five projects approved by the Rural Development Council (Cederural) this Tuesday, June 8, which should have positive impacts on agribusiness in Santa Catarina in the coming years.

"We continue to expand investments and projects to benefit rural producers and fishermen in Santa Catarina. And today the big highlight was artisanal fishing, which will receive a R$30 million program to improve infrastructure. The projects are discussed and prepared by listening to the productive sector and state leaders and this is fundamental so that we can evolve in the development of public policies for agribusiness in Santa Catarina. Today was a very important day, with the approval of fundamental projects for agriculture and fishing in Santa Catarina", highlights the Secretary of Agriculture, Altair Silva.

The new programs include investments to expand the area planted with grains, especially corn, in Santa Catarina; improving infrastructure for artisanal fishing; mariculture management; control and monitoring of agrochemical residues and acquisition of equipment.

According to the Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, Ricardo Miotto, the new lines of support will bring significant advances to the entire sector and demonstrate the State Government's commitment to the development of rural and fishing areas.

"Today was a historic day for fishing and mariculture in Santa Catarina. We approved two important projects for the development of the sector: Inova Pesca and the Santa Catarina Mariculture Management System, which together will bring R$30,4 million in investments. The governor Carlos Moisés is making a great gesture of valuing artisanal fishing and mariculture. Furthermore, we will have a significant contribution of resources for the control and monitoring of pesticide residue, which demonstrates our commitment to food safety in Santa Catarina. We are working with a lot of desire and dedication to invest in agriculture and fishing in our state", highlights Miotto.

Special Project to Support the Expansion of Cereal Production – New Frontiers Project

The intention of the Department of Agriculture is to expand the area cultivated with grains by 10 thousand hectares in the next two years in the state. The Novas Fronteiras Project will be part of the Terra-Boa Program and will provide 100 thousand tons of limestone to producers who are expanding production, especially with corn. Investments of R$6,6 million are planned until 2022.

The Project will be carried out in partnership with the Vale do Itajaí Regional Agricultural Cooperative (Cravil), which will take care of operationalization, supply of inputs, technical assistance and the purchase of cereals at the end of the harvest. Each producer will be able to access up to 500 tons of limestone, which must be paid for at the end of the harvest.

In 2021, Novas Fronteiras will be implemented in 17 municipalities in the regions of Rio do Sul, Lages and São Joaquim.
