The Supreme Federal Court ruled on the merits of Direct Action of Unconstitutionality 7715 and declared null and void a law from Mato Grosso that establishes sanctions for illegal occupants and invaders of private rural and urban properties in its territory.

State law provides for penalties that include restrictions on social benefits, a ban on holding public office and the inability to contract with the state government.

In the action, the Attorney General's Office (PGR) alleged that State Law 12.430/2024 had invaded the Union's exclusive competence to legislate on criminal law and to issue general rules for public bidding and contracting.

In September 2024, the rapporteur of the action, Minister Flávio Dino, temporarily suspended the rule. The Plenary upheld the decision the following month and has now judged the merits of the action.
