In favor of the future of the planet, 1249 students, from the 1st to the 5th year of Elementary School, participated in lectures on the importance of the environment promoted by SLC Agrícola last Tuesday, June 18th. The awareness raising was carried out at the Municipal Schools of Basic Education Sagrado Coração de Jesus, Deputado Renê Barbour, Maria Aparecida Cavalini Soares Mozar and 13 de Maio - located in the city of Nova Olímpia, in Mato Grosso.

This is the “Pact in Defense of the Pantanal Headwaters” project, lasting two years, and in partnership with the non-governmental organization WWF-Brazil. The objective is to recover 700 kilometers of rivers and at least 30 springs in an area covered by the Paraguay River and its tributaries.

The initiative began in May this year. It includes environmental education and training for the recovery of degraded areas and springs with the aim of positively impacting students, rural producers and communities in various regions in the State of Mato Grosso. The next planned actions will cover the municipality of Denise (MT), in the second week of July. The information comes from the Farming Coordinator at Fazenda Paiaguás, located in Diamantina (MT), Marcelo Linka.

The coordinator highlights that the goal is to reach 11 municipalities in the region of the 25 municipalities that are part of the Alto do Rio Paraguay Economic, Social, Environmental and Tourist Development Consortium, which works to develop regional public policies in these areas and help resolve bottlenecks in the municipal administration. “In Nova Olímpia I gave a lecture to raise awareness about the environment, together with members of the Socio-Environmental Action Group (GAS) from the Paiaguás unit, Alisson Picalho (Administrative Assistant) and Dalciane Rodrigues Souza (Porteira). They will also be present at the lectures that will be held in other schools”, informs Linka.
