The government of Santa Catarina has signed a Letter of Intent with Japan to strengthen cooperation in the areas of agribusiness, food security and logistics infrastructure. The document was formalized this week in Tokyo during an international mission led by Governor Jorginho Mello.
The agreement foresees the development of an efficient logistics network for grain exports, with emphasis on the Port of São Francisco do Sul as a supply hub for the Japanese market. The initiative is part of the Japan-Brazil Strategic Partnership Action Plan (2025–2030) and seeks to expand the presence of Japanese companies in Santa Catarina, especially in the agricultural, food and transportation sectors.
The letter, initially valid for two years, also opens space for future investments, technical exchanges and the holding of bilateral forums. The expectation is that the first actions will begin to be implemented this year.
