The São Paulo Agribusiness Technology Agency (Apta) in Marília is carrying out the analysis and comparison of economic indicators of three grafted and non-grafted Arabica coffee cultivars in the geographic microregion of Marília (SP), from 2018 to 2022. The information will contribute to maximizing coffee production in the State of São Paulo.
According to researcher Patrícia Turco, the study aims to demonstrate the importance of rootstock in coffee productivity and in the development of each variety. “The use of rootstock is a fundamental technology for grain production and for the development of the plant, protecting it from diseases, such as nematodes.”
The research demonstrates to coffee growers that management is an important tool for decision-making, in addition to presenting the profitability values of the activity. Coffee growers will have the advantage of obtaining detailed knowledge of the activity in the region studied. “With the results, the producer will be able to effectively apply this knowledge on his own property, making his activity more efficient, producing more and with a better cost-benefit ratio”, highlights Patrícia. In addition, the benefits of rootstock in coffee production will be highlighted. “It is an applied research, developed in the region of Marília, generating information that contributes to maximizing coffee production”, emphasizes the specialist.
Researchers from Apta Regional in Marília, Adriana Martins, and from Presidente Prudente, Ricardo Firetti and Eder Pinatti, form the study team for the project, which is financed by Embrapa Café - Consórcio Pesquisa Café, an agreement established with the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo.
