A new insecticide has just been launched on the Brazilian market. Bazuka Duo, from the multinational Rotam, based in Hong Kong, combines two powerful insecticide molecules in a highly versatile formulation with efficient control of a complex of pests, mainly caterpillars of the genus Spodoptera and bedbugs. One of Rotam's main objectives is to make life easier for producers, providing a single product with the solution for controlling bedbugs and caterpillars. It also brings convenience, as it can be applied at any stage of the different cultures included in its registration.

According to the agronomist and portfolio manager of the company in the country, Andre Barabach, the new product being presented has proven control of eggs, nymphs and adults. “In the composition we have two powerful molecules, bifenthrin and methomyl, which combined have a synergistic effect, which gives the product immediate control of insects and a reduction in their re-infestation. Its EC liquid formulation is easy to handle and has no odor, adding value to the list of benefits of this insecticide”, he highlights.

Effectiveness against soybean bug

A test implemented at the multinational's Experimental Station in Artur Nogueira-SP, 2019/20 harvest, counted the percentage of brown stink bug eggs hatched Euschistus heros. The application of Bazuka Duo caused 100% egg non-viability after eight days of spraying. The control obtained a 93% rate of hatched eggs in eight days and the best result from a competing product was, also after eight days, 17% of non-viable eggs.

Another experiment, this time carried out by Fundação MT at Fazenda Cachoeira, in the city of Itiquira-MT, 2019/20 harvest, evaluated the effectiveness of controlling the brown stink bug Euschistus heros in soybeans. The results showed that 12 days after the second application of Bazuka Duo, nymph control was 94,3%, while treatment with a competing product reached 88,6%.

The total number of insects per square meter 15 days after the second application of the release was 1,6 bedbugs, while the control already had more than 7 adults. “In a scenario like this with high pest pressure, the impact on crop productivity will certainly be very high if we do not use a high-performance product, since stink bugs directly attack the main yield components of the crop, pods and grains”, adds Barabach.

Exactly speaking of impact on production, the research counted the number of bags of soybeans per hectare and also the weight of a thousand seeds. With the Bazuka Duo, production was 6% more than the competing product and 17% more compared to the control.

Powerful caterpillar tool

The Bazuka Duo is yet another solution for controlling the dreaded “agricultural system caterpillars” (pests that feed on various crops), Helicoverpa Armigera, Chrysodeixis includens and Spodoptera eridania. Research developed by Fundação MT at Fazenda Estrela in Pedra Preta - MT, evaluated the efficiency of the product under the caterpillar helicoverpa in soybeans, 2019/20 harvest. At 14 days, after the second application, elimination was 100%.
