The Rio Verde Research and Development Foundation is one of the organizers of the 38th Brazilian Nematology Congress 2023, which will be held between the 21st and 24th of August, in Cuiabá-MT. With the theme Nematology for the future: sustainability and technology, the Congress aims to bring academia and rural producers closer together.
On this occasion, there will be a presentation of scientific works in the form of posters, with research results. The Rio Verde Foundation is part of the technical-scientific committee that will evaluate the work presented.
Researcher at the Rio Verde Foundation, Maira Fontanela highlights that participation in the Brazilian Nematology Congress aims to contribute to the dissemination of technical and practical knowledge in the Mato Grosso region, in accordance with the institution's purpose.
"The Rio Verde Foundation aims to provide all the necessary support to producers in the region, diagnosing the problems encountered and researching efficient ways to control them. In the State, nematode problems affect all crops and the Foundation has a line of research in the area, with laboratories equipped to carry out identification, the theme of the Congress has a lot to do with our internal research", he highlighted.
The researcher also highlights the importance of the event for rural producers, as the event will have a specific day to discuss crop management techniques to minimize the impact of nematodes on crops. "A subject that directly relates to what the Foundation works on, that is, tools that the producer can adopt to control the problem", she pointed out.
Executive director of the Rio Verde Foundation, Rodrigo Pasqualli highlights that the institution is concerned with occupying prominent positions such as organizing events like these, as in addition to being an opportunity to disseminate scientific research, it also enables learning for the Foundation's researchers, through exchange of experiences.
“The Foundation’s essence is scientific research in favor of the productive sector. And we need to occupy all spaces, always improve our qualifications to meet the demands of the field and offer increasingly more quality and credible services to everyone who seeks us out”, he stated.
Simultaneously with the Congress, the 3rd Nematode Management Workshop in the Cerrado will be held. Its main objective will be to discuss chemical, biological and cultural control, as well as emerging problems related to nematodes in the region.
Promoted by the Brazilian Society of Nematology and organized by the Mato Grosso Nematology Study Group (GREN-MT), the Brazilian Nematology Congress seeks to expand the discussion on the direction of Nematology in the national and international scenario, without losing focus on concerns about the health.
Members of the Brazilian Society of Nematology, students, teachers, researchers, technicians, producers and other professionals linked to agricultural production and who are interested in nematology can participate.
The technical-scientific program includes lectures and round tables covering the following topics: nematode taxonomy; nematode identification systems; soil management to control nematodes; molecular biology in nematology; management of nematodes in crops of importance to the Midwest.
