Rice planting work continues in Rio Grande do Sul. This week, the state reached 77.645 hectares of the 948.356 hectares predicted (8,19%) by the Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga). Sowing has not yet started only for producers in the South Zone region.
The Western Border remains the most advanced, with 75.082 hectares sown (26,67% of the estimated 281.542 hectares). In the Central region, the numbers reveal 1.336 hectares (1,06% of the expected 125.860 hectares).
Irga Rural Extension Manager (Dater), Luiz Fernando Siqueira, explains that the heavy rains this week will hinder sowing work. “Except in those regions that use the pre-germinated system. This is the case of the Quarta Colônia region and other municipalities, such as Candelária, characterized by many pre-germinated areas. These regions will probably continue sowing normally, because the rain is not such a big obstacle to continuing sowing,” he highlighted.
Siqueira adds that in other regions of the state, however, they will probably only have conditions for sowing when the weather improves. “Since it is the end of September, we will probably only have good weather again in October,” he says.
The survey of rice sowing in the State is coordinated by Dater and prepared based on information collected by Irga centers in the interior of the State together with rice farmers.
