The Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga), through its Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Centers (Nates), released the first report on the progress of the 2025/2026 harvest in Rio Grande do Sul. To date, 17.521 hectares have been planted, corresponding to 1,9% of the total sowing intention, estimated at 920.071 hectares for the cycle.

The regional survey presents the following scenario:

  • Central Region (RC): 1.424 hectares sown in the pre-germinated system.
  • Western Border Region (FO): 145 hectares in line, representing 0,05% of the intended area.
  • Inner Coastal Plain (ICP) Region: 5.180 hectares in pre-germinated, corresponding to 3,69% of the regional forecast.
  • Outer Coastal Plain Region (PCE): 1.582 hectares in pre-germination, equivalent to 1,67% of the expected area.
  • South Zone Region (ZS): 9.190 hectares in line, corresponding to 5,87% of the sowing intention.
  • Campanha Region (CA): does not yet register sown areas, due to the recurring rains that have limited field operations.

October is technically considered the preferred period for sowing irrigated rice in the state, ensuring better use of soil and climate conditions. The trend is that, with greater climate stability, planting windows will expand and the pace of crop implementation will advance more consistently across all regions.
