Rice farmers consulted by Cepea were more active in selling paddy rice this week, due to bank commitments. Some processors, in turn, did not show interest in renewing their stocks, reducing the values offered. Others, however, are absent from the market.

Thus, between June 4th and 11th, the ESALQ/SENAR-RS Indicator, 58% whole grains, fell 1%, to R$ 44,18/sc of 50 kg on June 11th. As for the processing of paddy rice, it registered a drop in the first four months of 2019, according to IBGE data.

Beneficiaries consulted by Cepea report “arm wrestling” with the wholesale and retail segments, due to the difficulty in passing on the higher costs of purchasing paddy rice. As a result, they end up prioritizing working with the cereal deposited in their warehouses, to the detriment of the free product. Furthermore, industries report competition with imported products.
