The Federation of Rice Growers Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz), issued a note, signed by the president of the entity, Alexandre Velho, outlining a momentary assessment of the year 2024. According to the federation, this has been a challenging year for Federarroz, rice growers, farmers and the people of Rio Grande do Sul because, in addition to all the climatic challenges, structural and political challenges persist, "prolonging insecurity and eroding the hope of recovery".
According to the statement, in the midst of a general tragedy, resolving individual misfortunes, taking action in solidarity, restless and nervous to collaborate and alleviate the suffering of the neediest neighbor, the Federarroz board went to the center of the Federal Government to undo the intention to import rice that would inevitably bring with it more insecurity to rice farmers. "Agreements were sealed, based especially on the character and honor of each participant in the various meetings," the note notes.
The entity emphasizes that, now, at a time when Cepea/Esalq is heading towards an indicative price of R$120,00, in the last third of the commercial season, it is time for the rice-growing class to let go and demonstrate its organization and keep the market fully supplied. "We rice farmers have decided to produce the "in natura" food most consumed by humans. Thus, we need to demonstrate all the nobility of this profession", the note highlights.
