The new report monitoring prices paid to producers in São Paulo, prepared by the Economic Department of the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of São Paulo (Faesp), shows an increase in rice and lemon prices in May. Due to the flooding scenario in Rio Grande do Sul, demand for rice was high, a factor that increased prices by 17,6%. Lemons rose 12,5%, the same increase as industrial oranges, which accumulated a 68,8% increase in the year.
Silver bananas fell by 21,5% in the month, but prices are still 35,6% higher than those practiced in May 2023. The price of sweet potatoes suffered another decline, by 19,3% in the month, remaining 31,9% lower than in the same month last year.
The mild climate favored the production of leafy greens, at the same time as it reduced demand, reducing the price of curly lettuce by 17,2% and American lettuce by 12,6%.
