The rains recorded in Rio Grande do Sul last week were essential to maintain adequate levels of soil moisture in wheat crops. This is what the Informativo Conjuntural released today by Emater/RS indicates. The bulletin also highlights that most of the plants are in reproductive stages (40% in flowering and 28% in grain filling), which requires greater water. The crops sown earlier (1%) have already started the maturation process. The cultivated area is 1.312.488 hectares, and the expected productivity is 3.100 kg/ha.

Management is underway, focusing on disease prevention. In crops in the vegetative stage, spot and powdery mildew control is carried out. In areas in the reproductive stage, the main diseases are rust and head blight.

The climatic conditions – rain with dry periods and mild temperatures – favored the growth of white oat in the last week, resulting in an increase in leaf area. Most crops are in reproductive periods and those sown earlier are being harvested. Emater/RS estimates that the area cultivated for grain production is 365.590 hectares, and productivity is 2.402 kg/ha.

The rainfall recorded during the period was adequate and, combined with warm to mild temperatures, favored the filling of the grains. canola. However, producers express concern regarding the production potential due to the low light, which persists, which could reduce the weight and size of the grains to be harvested in the coming weeks. Emater/RS projects 134.975 hectares cultivated in the State, and the initial productivity is 1.679 kg/ha.

In recent weeks, weather conditions have been favorable for the development of barley, contributing to maintaining the production expectation initially projected in the main cultivation zones. The combination of temperature, humidity and solar radiation positively impacted plant growth, helping to maintain their potential. The cultivation projection indicated by Emater/RS is 34.429 hectares, and productivity of 3.245 kg/ha.

Summer Grains

Favorable weather conditions allowed for the expansion of sowing of corn, which reached 43% of the projected area in the 2024/2025 harvest. Maintaining soil moisture content at adequate levels favored germination, emergence and initial vegetative growth of the crop. The crops show satisfactory development and plant stand. For the 2024/2025 harvest in the State, Emater/RS projects the cultivation of 748.511 hectares, and productivity is estimated at 7.116 kg/ha.

O corn silage continues in the sowing period. The adequate soil moisture content favored germination, emergence and initial vegetative growth. In the State, 357.311 hectares of cultivated area for silage are expected in the 2024/2025 harvest. The estimated productivity is 38.440 kg/ha.

O rice is in the initial sowing phase. The period recommended by the Agricultural Zoning of Climatic Risk (Zarc) began on 11/09 and will extend until 10/12. The Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga) projects a 5,35% increase in the cultivated area, totaling 948.356 hectares in relation to the 2023/2024 harvest, which covered 900.203 hectares. In addition, Emater/RS estimates a productivity of 8.478 kg/ha, resulting in a production of 8.040.295 tons, which represents a growth of 11,69% compared to 7.198.527 tons produced last year.

Emater/RS conducted data collection for the projection of the 1st harvest of bean, estimating the cultivation of 28.896 hectares, which represents an increase of 4,55% in relation to the area cultivated in the 2023/2024 harvest, which was 27.639 hectares. The projected productivity is 1.786 kg/ha, resulting in a total production of 51.609 tons, which corresponds to an increase of 26,86% compared to the production obtained in the previous harvest.
