Over the 366 days of 2024, the ports of Rio Grande do Sul received 3.620 vessels, 2.954 of which were at the Port of Rio Grande, 503 at the Port of Pelotas and another 163 vessels at the Port of Porto Alegre. In total, the three units managed by Portos RS handled the equivalent of 45.098.185 tons.

When classified by cargo segment, solid bulk corresponds to 28.717.990 tons, followed by general cargo, with 13.354.056 tons, and liquid bulk, with 3.026.139 tons. The growth in movements represents the state's ability to overcome the climate events experienced in the first half of the year.

For the president of Portos RS, Cristiano Klinger, the results reflect the state's efforts to recover the Rio Grande do Sul waterway system, which has been severely affected by sedimentation of the navigation channels. For him, the statistical data represent the potential for recovery of the economy of Rio Grande do Sul in the short and medium term.

“When we look at the figures for 2024, we see the state’s ability to overcome the flooding scenario. The second half of the year was a time of hard work to ensure the recovery of our infrastructure and the unblocking of navigation channels, such as the dredging carried out in Rio Grande and the work on the waterway,” he said.

In 2024, there were 798.911 TEUs, a number that is 24,98% higher than in 2023, when 639.233 TEUs were moved. TEU is a unit of measurement corresponding to a 20-foot container.

Imports totaled 10.885.701 tons and had as main origins China (1.806.025 t), Argentina (1.597.870 t), Russia (951.874 t), Morocco (711.967 t) and Canada (670.873 t), in that order. The United States, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Uruguay and Peru complete the list of ten countries.
