Teams from the National Supply Company (Conab) are in the field this month of October to survey production costs for various products in São Paulo (peanuts and natural rubber), in Bahia (passion fruit and piaçava) and in Minas Gerais (pequi, umbu and macaúba). The areas analyzed are mainly produced by family farming and socio-biodiversity.

The objective of the meetings is to bring together an audience made up of sector agents and the Conab technical team to survey the technical coefficients and prices of fertilizers, use of pesticides, variety of seeds, labor, machines and others, aiming to define the parameters , activities and modal inputs used and establish the volume of expenses related to the activity.

The first panels were held earlier this week in São Paulo. Conab technicians also met with the piassava and passion fruit sectors, in Bahia, and with representatives of pequi, umbum and macaúba, in Minas Gerais.

The production costs defined by the Company are constantly updated and used to develop public policies in the country, in segments linked to the production process. The importance of defining production costs in the execution of the Price Guarantee Program for Family Farming (PGPAF) and the Minimum Price Guarantee Policy for Sociobiodiversity Products (PGPM-Bio) is highlighted, which seek to guarantee remuneration minimum to producers, ensuring production and maintenance of income in the field.

São Paulo

The crops analyzed in São Paulo are particularly relevant in cost analysis due to the representativeness of that state in national production. In the case of natural rubber, the 2021/2022 São Paulo harvest corresponds to 60% of the country's total, according to data from the São Paulo government's Institute of Agricultural Economics (IEA). In the case of peanuts, the most recent survey published by Conab points to a representation of 92,7% of the state harvest in relation to the national harvest for the 2021/2022 cycle.
