Embrapa Soja and the Meridional Foundation launch the BRS Jacana wheat cultivar, on September 17th, starting at 8:30 am, during the 2021 Winter DIGICAMPO which will be held, in digital format, at Embrapa Soja YouTube channel and on the channel IDR-PR. The full event schedule can be found below.
BRS Jacana is a Bread class wheat, with hard grains, suitable for making white flour, traditionally used in French bread. According to researchers Manoel Bassoi and Salvador Foloni, from Embrapa Soja, BRS Jacana is a profitable bread wheat option, both for the producer and for the industry, due to its precocity, high grain yield, production stability, combined with technological quality. The BRS Jacana is recommended for regions: 1, 2 and 3 of Paraná; 1 and 2 of Santa Catarina; and 2 from São Paulo. Bassoi, who evaluated the average yield potential of grains in trials in the three states, shows that productivity, in Paraná, was 4.315 kg ha-1, 4.898 kg ha-1 and 3.962 kg ha-1, in Regions 1, 2 and 3, respectively. In Santa Catarina, they were 5.514 kg ha-1 and 4.457 kg ha-1, in Regions 1 and 2, respectively. In Region 2 of São Paulo it was 5.355 kg ha-1.
Regarding diseases, BRS Jacana is moderately resistant to leaf rust and leaf spots. BRS Jacana has an early cycle, 59 days of heading and 95 days of maturation. It is moderately susceptible to pre-harvest germination and moderately resistant to lodging.
“BRS Jacana enters the market, reinvigorating the cultivation options of producers looking for early wheat. It is a cultivar that combines excellence in productive potential, wide adaptability and the producer can now guarantee its seed for the next harvest”, highlights the head of Technology Transfer at Embrapa Soja, Carina Rufino.
For Ralf Udo Dengler, executive manager of Fundação Meridional, the launch of BRS Jacana brings another great option to wheat producers, with a TOP 5000 yield concept. "In all recommended regions, its high production potential and excellent stability, combined with ideal technological quality characteristics, provide farmers and industry with an excellent bread wheat option", highlights Dengler.
