Ports handled 104 million tons in January.

Price increases reach 12,79% in the month; soybeans advance 114,3%.

The Brazilian port sector opened 2026 with an increase in cargo handling. The country's ports handled 104 million tons in January. This volume exceeds by 12,79% the amount recorded in the same month of 2025, according to data from the Waterway Statistics released by the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (Antaq).

In public ports, cargo handling totaled 35,5 million tons. This represents a 10,3% increase compared to the previous year. Among the 20 facilities with the highest volume, the Port of Santarém (PA) led in relative growth. The terminal handled 1,6 million tons, a 156,3% increase.

Private Use Terminals handled 68,7 million tons. Growth was 14,1%. Within this group, the highlight was the TPET/TOIL Oil Terminal in the Port of Açu (RJ), with 7,7 million tons and an increase of 159,8%.

Long-distance shipping moved 70,9 million tons, representing an 11% increase. Coastal shipping totaled 27,4 million tons, a 13,7% rise.

In terms of cargo profiles, solid bulk cargo reached 54,7 million tons, an increase of 10,4%. This category includes agricultural and mineral products such as soybeans, corn, iron ore, and fertilizers. Liquid bulk cargo totaled 31,2 million tons, a 29,7% increase. General loose cargo reached 4,9 million tons, a 13,2% increase. Containerized cargo reached 13,2 million tons, a 1,9% increase.

Among commodities, crude oil led with 21,4 million tons and a growth of 37,6%. Soybeans followed, with 4 million tons and an increase of 114,3%. Petroleum coke registered 0,6 million tons, with a rise of 32,7%.
