With a total movement of 9.802.155 tons between January and March 2025, the Port of Rio Grande reached the highest volume ever recorded in a first quarter. The 15,54% increase compared to the same period in 2024 consolidated the terminal as the main growth vector for port activity in Rio Grande do Sul, which ended the period with a total of 10.128.069 tons moved, representing an increase of 12% in the annual comparison.

The record performance was mainly driven by the 900,33% increase in corn movement, which went from 78.391 tons to 784.169 tons, ranking fourth among the most moved products. Also showing significant positive variation were sulfate (336,28%), potassium chloride (100,68%), phosphate (67,52%), meat (55,80%), soybean grain (22,61%) and cellulose (16,64%). Even with a volume exceeding 1,5 million tons, wheat — which is among the main cargoes moved alongside soybean meal and cellulose — registered a 28,37% decrease compared to the first quarter of 2024.

In terms of container movement, the Port of Rio Grande totaled 226.357 TEUs, a growth of 32,97% compared to the same period last year. Of this total, 87.642 TEUs were exports and 84.961 TEUs were imports.

The volume exported by the Rio Grande complex reached 5.782.277 tons. The main destinations were China (899 thousand tons), Vietnam (873 thousand tons), Saudi Arabia (474 thousand tons), Indonesia (435 thousand tons) and South Korea (277 thousand tons). The United States, which was among the main destinations last year, occupied sixth place at the beginning of the year, with 245.402 tons. In imports, the port handled 2.127.142 tons, with emphasis on cargo from China (490 thousand tons), Argentina (378 thousand tons) and the United States (122 thousand tons).

In the other ports managed by Portos RS, total movement in the first quarter was 277.466 tons in Pelotas, with a predominance of operations involving wood logs and clinker. In Porto Alegre, 48.448 tons were moved in the period, with a predominance of fertilizer, wheat and salt cargo. In both units, there was a reduction in the volumes operated compared to the same period in 2024.

The performance recorded in the first quarter reflects the relevance of the Port of Rio Grande in the logistics of outflow and supply of Rio Grande do Sul's production, consolidating its position as the main link between the production sector and international markets.
