The preliminary results for the month of March brought good winds to the Port of Santos, with an unprecedented 15,3 million tons. It is the best monthly performance in the history of the Santos pier, surpassing by around 1% the previous record set in the same period in 2021 (when the port handled 15,2 million tons). The growth occurred mainly in shipments, which reached 11,7 million tons, a performance that exceeds the same month of the previous year by approximately 3%.
Positive highlight for solid bulk, which secured a historic record with the previous movement of 8,9 million tons, an increase of around half a million in relation to the previous best mark (recorded in March 2022).
The advance in the soybean harvest was decisive for the growth in shipments through the Port of Santos. The oilseed has, to date, reached 6,3 million tons, approximately 21% above March 2022.
“The result obtained shows that the Port continues to follow the path of increasing efficiency and productivity, consolidating its vocation as the largest port complex in Latin America, strengthening the generation of jobs and economic development for the region and the country.”, highlighted the interim CEO of Santos Port Authority (SPA), Marcus Mingoni.
The number of ships docked in the period reached a total of 484, a result 8% above that recorded in the same period in 2022.
For SPA's Director of Operations, Marcelo Ribeiro, “the historic mark reflects the planning undertaken by the Company in recent years, which covers in a coordinated manner the advances necessary for the sustainable development of Porto, with projects such as the contract for the new Porto Internal Railway of Santos (Fips), which will guarantee an increase in the movement of railway cargo, doubling the capacity of agribusiness movement on the Santos tracks and expanding the Port’s share on the global stage”.
It is worth noting that, as these are preliminary data, the final statistical numbers may still expand the new historical record established.
