The reasons that show that planting wheat is a good business are the theme of a new episode of the digital version of Show Rural Coopavel that can be watched on the event's digital channels - www.showrural.com.br e youtube.com/showruralagro. Embrapa researcher Salvador Foloni and commercial consultant from Banco do Brasil Seguros, Marcos Vinicius dos Santos, share precious information that, in addition to encouraging, brings even more security to rural producers who decide to invest in triticulture.

There are numerous benefits to growing wheat, especially for those who choose to leave their land area fallow – without growing any crops. Foloni explains that wheat generates direct income for the producer and contributes gains to subsequent crops. “Growing wheat helps to amortize the fixed costs of farming, land, machinery, staff and also improvements.” The researcher also cites reduced expenses in soybean cultivation, weed management and increased productivity.

Studies point to productivity gains of 10% to 15% in subsequent soybeans when installed on wheat straw. Foloni also highlights the benefits of increasing the agronomic sustainability of production systems, combating erosion, improving straw and nutrient cycling, and advances in the management of diseases and soil parasites. “With new highly technological varieties, productivity is surprising, bringing good financial returns to rural producers”, highlights the president of Coopavel, Dilvo Grolli.

Insurance

Banco do Brasil Seguros and Coopavel found a way to make wheat cultivation even more attractive in the cooperative's coverage area. This is a pilot project to cover quality loss in wheat. The person who talks about this in the episode of Show Rural Digital that is currently on air is BB Seguros commercial consultant Marcos Vinicius dos Santos. “Frost and hail account for 25% of losses, but the highest accident rate is waterspouts and excessive rain, which account for 54% of the total”, according to Marcos.

The consultant says that the technologies currently available favor the farmer in terms of planting safety, preventing him from choosing to leave the land without any crops. Quality loss coverage is specific to Coopavel members. There are some rules that need to be followed, such as the use of certified seeds and observation of zoning guided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

Marcos highlights that Mapa encourages wheat, providing a 40% subsidy, an amount that can be deducted from insurance. “Rural producers need to think of insurance as an investment and not a cost”, according to the commercial consultant at Banco do Brasil. The Rural Show in its digital version can be followed by farmers and technicians from anywhere and at any time, points out the general coordinator of the event, agronomist Rogério Rizzardi.
