Paranaguá, the city that is home to the second largest port in Brazil, has just gained a new yard for classifying fertilizers. The operation, which represents an advance in the sector, takes place inside the FastFrete yard, a company belonging to the FTSpar Group.
The classification increases the guarantee of the quality of the product that arrives in Brazil and will contribute to the process of importing fertilizers through the port.
“In recent years, demand for various types of fertilizers has grown as farmers seek to optimize crop yields and quality. Brazil, being a global agricultural giant, relies heavily on fertilizers to maintain its position as one of the main exporters of agricultural products”, explained Valdecio Bombonatto, CEO of FTSpar.
Fertilizer unloading at ports in Paraná increased by 10,32% in the first half of this year. In the first five months of the year, the volume reached 3.924.395 tons, coming mainly from Russia (20,4%), China (19,7%), Canada (18,6%) and the United States (8,8%). %).
The forecast of the Agricultural Fertilizer and Corrective Industry Union in the State of Paraná (Sindiadubos) is that the volume landed by the end of the year will exceed 9 million tons in Paranaguá. Among the main fertilizers imported by the port of Paranaguá are potassium chloride, urea, MAP and products from the NPK complex.
Fertilizer Classification
FastFrete's fertilizer classification yard is already receiving an average of two thousand tons of fertilizers per day. Fertilizer classification is the process of categorizing and separating imported fertilizers based on their chemical composition, physical properties and intended use.
For the director of the company FastFrete, João Bombonatto, the fertilizer classification yard in Paranaguá represents a significant moment for the city, the state of Paraná and the entire country. “This initiative will not only simplify the fertilizer import process, but will also contribute to the growth and sustainability of agribusiness. We are the first and only private company in Brazil that offers the fertilizer classification service”, he informs.
Fertilizer classification is a meticulous procedure, it ensures that each batch is aligned with the specific needs of Brazilian farmers and their various crops, including:
Precision agriculture: Properly classified fertilizers allow farmers to practice precision agriculture by adapting fertilizer applications to different crops, soils and environmental conditions. This leads to increased crop productivity and reduced waste and losses.
Environmental sustainability: By correctly classifying fertilizers, it becomes easier to control their distribution and minimize the risk of environmental pollution. This is in line with Brazil's commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
Economic efficiency: Efficient fertilizer classification reduces logistical complexities, ensuring the right fertilizers reach the right destinations quickly. This can lead to cost savings for both farmers and importers.
Harvest quality: Properly classified fertilizers contribute to improving crop quality, increasing Brazil's competitiveness in global markets.
