According to the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), Paraná is expected to break the record for soybean production in the 2022/2023 harvest, with an estimated production of 22,18 million tons in an area of 5,76 million hectares . The volume is 82% higher than the previous harvest, thanks to favorable weather conditions.
Although the harvest is delayed compared to previous harvests, the quality of the product should not be affected. Around 90% of crops are in good condition and 10% in average condition, according to the report released this Thursday (30).
Furthermore, Paraná must have the largest wheat area in history, with 1,36 million hectares, which represents an increase of 13% compared to last year. The good prices paid to producers and the impossibility of planting the second corn crop are the main reasons for the increase in area. If weather conditions help, production could reach 4,5 million tons, an increase of 32% compared to the previous harvest.
Corn production is also expected to increase, with a forecast production of 3,76 million tons in the first harvest, 26% more than in the 2021/2022 harvest, and an estimated area of 387,2 thousand hectares. The second corn harvest had a reduction of approximately 120 thousand hectares compared to the February report, due to the delay in the soybean harvest, which could lead to the migration of part or all of this area to wheat cultivation.
Regarding beans, the first harvest of 2022/2023 had a good performance and excellent quality, with a production of 197,4 thousand tons in an area of 115 thousand hectares. Around 86% of the volume has already been sold. The second harvest is expected to produce 588,8 thousand tons on 295,9 thousand hectares, an increase of 5% compared to the previous harvest, with the area 12% smaller.
Despite the good production performance, soybean bag prices have fallen in recent weeks due to the large supply of the oilseed on the market, in addition to lower prices on the international market. The average prices received by producers for a bag of colored beans were maintained, while the bag of black beans increased by 1,6% compared to the previous week.
According to Deral technicians, climatic events, such as prolonged droughts, excessive rains at harvest time and late frosts, have negatively impacted productivity in recent years. Therefore, producers need to count on the help of the weather to reach the expected production potential.
