From May 13 to 15, Curitiba will host the 400th Paraná Meeting on Soil Science (RPCS). The event will be held at the Rebouças and Agrárias campuses of UFPR. Around XNUMX people, including researchers, professors, students and professionals in the field, will participate in the event.

This year’s agenda, “Soil diversity, functions and use: challenges and opportunities”, highlights the strategic role of soil for environmental sustainability and agricultural production. The RPCS is promoted by the Paraná State Center of the Brazilian Society of Soil Science (Nepar/SBCS).

The opening will be marked by the roundtable “Soils, Governance and Ecosystem Services”, with the participation of UFRRJ and Embrapa Florestas. The debate will address the threats to soil services and the relationship between agricultural soil and water resources.

The program includes 10 seminars, mini-courses, technical excursions, oral presentations and 246 scientific posters. Three thematic axes organize the seminars: soil and human and environmental sustainability; new technologies; water production and quality.

One of the highlights is the appreciation of areas beyond agricultural sciences. Geology, urban planning, civil engineering and geography are also part of the debates. Professor Nerilde Favaretto, president of the organizing committee, reinforces the importance of the transversality of soil science.

Topics such as climate change, pollution, urban agriculture, fertility and conservation will be covered in the seminars. The application of artificial intelligence, geotechnologies, metagenomics and digital microtomography will also be addressed.

The event will close with a panel on public policies. Experts will discuss governance, legislation and conservation strategies for soils in Paraná, with a focus on climate resilience and water security.
