Delay in rain and high temperatures require pre-planting care for soybeans
Professor of Agricultural Mechanization at Unesp, Paulo Arbex highlights three essential points to guarantee good results in the coming harvest
The 2018/2019 Brazilian super harvest had the winter corn crop as its main protagonist. The second largest cereal producer in the country, Paraná has been a hub for investment in new solutions to increase productivity and, this year, reached 13,49 million tons in the second harvest, 50,5% more than the 2017 cycle /2018, according to the 12th survey by the National Supply Company – Conab.
The second corn harvest in Toledo, in western Paraná, ended with an average productivity of 125 bags per hectare. Producer in the region, Marcelo Girardi reached 154 bags per hectare with the super early FS450. “The hybrid demonstrated stability in the field, reacting to pressure from pests and diseases and providing a high production ceiling. Testing new technologies has been important to gain more and more competitiveness with quality”, he comments.
In Floresta (PR), producer Antonio Campagnoli decided to experiment with super early on a commercial scale and achieved productivity of 148 bags per hectare. “Even with the adverse conditions we faced this year due to the lack of rain, the hybrid started, developed well and produced grain quality,” he says.
“When planning the harvest, it is important that the producer takes into account the behavior of the material given the climate, type of soil, planting time and pest and disease pressure in the micro-region in which it operates. This specificity will help you in the search for higher and more qualitative levels of production”, assesses Rodrigo Razera, Market Development Manager at Forseed.
Ready to start another cycle, producer Fernando Martinez, from Rancho Alegre (PR), hopes to surpass the average of 148,9 bags per hectare achieved in this harvest with the FS450. “Super precociousness and the technology used count a lot when choosing a cultivar, especially in our region, which requires greater production stability due to climate variation”, he concludes.
