Portos do Paraná, a public company owned by the Government of Paraná, broke a new record in February 2024. There were 5.350.437 tons handled in the ports of Antonina and Paranaguá. The historical record surpasses the previous record, with a 5% increase compared to February 2022 (5.075.118 tons).
“The great demand for cargo movement last year continues to influence the results in 2024. Because of this, our expectation is that cargo movement will continue at a high pace in the first half of the year, regardless of a crop failure this year” , commented the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
Na export, loads of soybeans and sugar had the greatest movement in the month. Soybeans showed a growth of 172% compared to 2023, going from 453.595 tons to 1.235.113 tons in 2024. Sugar went from 222.452 tons in 2023, to 496.978 tons this year, representing an increase of 123%.
Na import, fertilizers had the highest volume moved: from 803.594 tons, in 2023, to 924.712 this year, representing an increase of 15%. Currently, Portos do Paraná is the main entry point for the commodity in the country, representing 31,6% of national movement.
Another highlight is movement of the first two months of 2024. “In the months of January and February we presented a 19% growth in general movement. In other words, there were 10,4 million tons this year compared to 8,7 million tons in 2023. With our logistics intelligence strategies, the forecast is that the growth in movement will remain constant in the coming months”, pointed out Gabriel Vieira, director of Operations at Portos do Paraná.
Another recent record for Portos do Paraná occurred in the first month of the year. In January, the public company handled 5.064.683 tons, a volume 20% higher compared to the previous record recorded in January last year (4.207.257). Another record was recorded in 2023, with annual movement of 65 million tons, a number that was scheduled to be reached only in 2040.
Currently the largest exporter from Paraná ports is China. According to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), linked to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services; revenues for the foreign market reached US$1,82 billion (R$9,01 billion) in the first month of the year, an increase of 29,2% compared to January 2023 (US$1,41 billion or R$ 6,98 billion).
